Richter Base was a UNSC fortification built on the planet Daego. During the Fall of Daego, the base was the location of the last stand for the Marines on the planet. It was completely destroyed by concentrated orbital bombardments unleashed by the Covenant. During the Daego Insertions, Task Force Alpha returned to the base's location, in search of the Forerunner weapon known as the Casket.
History[]
Fall of Daego[]
- Main Article: Fall of Daego
On December 23, 2550, the Covenant Fleet of Steadfast Guard exited slipspace over Daego. It quickly eliminated the Daego Defense Fleet and deployed troops to the surface of the planet.
After the Protocol Cole Protocol was initiated and all important UNSC data was destroyed, the Covenant fleet started bombarding the planet, leaving few survivors. All the remaining Marines on the ground were then ordered to fall back to Richter Base. When they arrived at the facility, they were immediately engaged by hordes of Covenant forces, led by a Sangheili General. The Marines managed to hold off the first few waves of enemies, using Richter's Warthog Warthogs and Scorpions. However, after three hours of battle, a CCS-class battlecruiser opened fire on the base, killing all the soldiers there.
Daego Insertions[]
- Main Article: Daego Insertions
On the second of January, 2551, during the Daego Insertions, Task Force Alpha was assigned to searching the remnants of Richter Base, which was now little more than a volcanic crater. Using mountain-climbing equipment, the team rappelled down into the massive hole and encountered a fuel rod bolt from a Banshee that had failed to detonate. It was delivered to the Office of Naval Intelligence two years later, where it was reverse-engineered, eventually leading to advancements in the LAU-65D missile pod design.
