Location: Voi, Coast Province, Republic Of Kenya, Earth
Force: Task Force Bravo
Primary Objective: Destroy AA Wraiths
Background Information: The Chief and Arbiter are deployed at one side of the Voi Traxus Factory Complex 09 to neutralise the Covenant's AA Cannons. Meanwhile, Task Force Bravo is deployed on the other side and must destroy three AA Wraiths in the valleys.
Thel Vadam4321 wrote: Zentarious paused. "So Seraphs, you now let demons fight your battles? You hide in the shadows as always? I thought sangheili loved nothing above honor. My mistake." Zentarious looked at Crestus who was tentively peering out of cover. "You, are a traitor to your entire species Crestus. You shall never have peace and in death your ancestors will tear your soul to shreads."
Zentarious suddenly dropped his hammer and turned around to his command console while his captains suppressed the fireteam.
"Watch your world burn!" he shouted as he charged the ventral plasma weapon.
Vlassamee keyed his suits over shield and charged the captains. With deft swiftness he slit their throats. He charged Zentarious from the back and the pair flew over the console and onto the floor. Crestus sprinted for Vlassamee and Zentarious. Together they subdued the chieftan and held him on his knees. Vlassamee reclaimed his sword from Zentarious's belt.
Taybab ran over to the weapons console. "He's activated a pre-set course. I'm completely locked out."
Taybab opened a panel under the console and began pulling wire bundles out.
"I might be able to hotwi--"
Zentarious laughed and laughed. "Fools. You cannot stop this ship."
"Zero-Five?" Vlassamee questioned.
"I don't think I can hack it fast enough," Taybab said. "The emitters are almost fully charged!"
Zentarious laughed and lauged until Crestus slammed his fist into his nose. A mild nose bleed took Zentarious and drew a thin line of red down his snout.
"Balance!" Vlassamee called.
<Locked in. Cannot regroup. Brutes at exfil.>
The Major collapsed. "Major!" Minor two exclaimed.
"There!" said Minor three pointing to a small blue and purple lump stuck to the ceiling. The Minor made several hand gestures at lightning speed. The huragok stuck its head out and replied. The Minor signed again. The huragok shook its head and repeated the no sign over and over. The minor spoke, "Please help us engineer. Destruction of life and structure will come if you do not shut down the fire beams."
The huragok started to approach the minor slowly. The minor took his helmet off to reveal a black serpentine like head. Taybab stepped up from the console. <Fix> he signed.
Zentarious spat blood and a tooth out of his mouth. "I forbid you to touch that worm!" The huragok recoiled. Crestus hit Zentarious a second time so hard it made him pass out.
Taybab and the Minor together slowly led the huragok to the console. "Stop the power." the Minor said. The huragok set to work at lightning speed. In the second before the plasma weapons would have discharged the huragok cut weapon and re- directed the power to the heat sinks which shot plasma and hot exhaust into the air.
In a few moments the fireteam had regrouped and returned to the Fury. They killed the squad trying to break in and exfiltrated the ship. Taybab had left a little present next to the main power conduit and a few moments from disembarking the ship tumbled out of the sky.
"Not too bad," Vlassamee said. "We have a chieftan as prisoner and a second huragok."
(Also, we have a new policy:
"For now on, every comment in brackets must be paired with an RP action, or it must be posted elsewhere.")
Kai finds a spot onboard the Fury to hang his weapons and begins to take off his armor, now just wearing the clothing he has underneath. Then he sees a cut in his clothing beneath, and remembers the burn he got from a brute with a energy sword. He looks at the wound, 4 inches long, half a inch deep.... Kai: "Oh yah, I forgot." he picks up the sword.... "Hey Vlassamee, any idea who this belonged to before the brutes got their hands on it?"
a jackal killed by marines so long ago some of his bones are now seeable, only 1 eye had not rotted off, a flood infection form crawls in, sliding around beneath his skin, he gets up, activates his point defense gauntlet, his arm forms into his stomic, and he slowly starts to inflate.
(You know, I didn't think it possible, but I have recently become more fond of MJOLNIR Mix.)
A Covenant Separatist fleet comes out of slipspace, and begins deploying troops via Orbital Insertion Pods.
Rtas 'Vadum: Demon, clear this sector, while we deal with the Flood.
It seems no help is coming to Bravo from humanity's new-found allies, however, a Phantom Gunboat launches from the Shadow of Intent, and proceeds toward the valley in which Bravo and Quebec were stranded.
(Forgive me if my memory/hearing serves me badly, for the Floodgate transcript.)
Both the Phantom and the Pelican head for the Sword, which had earlier participated in the failed attack on the Dreadnought. In turn, the Sword then docked with Shadow of Intent, in the manner that the FuD had.
(It doesn't have to, but we need to get transferred somehow, so it needed to dock with Intent. Let's say it got hit while assaulting the Dreadnought, and was no longer slipspace-worthy, so we were transferred to FuD while repairs take place.)
At the same time, a Phantom enters the hangar, and the Seraphs and DAB emerge.
(My favorite part! I almost had goosebumps. The only problem is that the Shadow of Intent arrived like 2/3s of the way through the batttle and it assisted in getting cortana. And almost as soon as the separitists arrived any ships they could spare started glassing.)
"Blood is our drink." A marine is cut apart by a flood combat form melee.
"The flesh is our food." A marine is consumed by an infection form.
Our bodies have never seen such vigor. An angry vengeance finally broods!"
DAB: (sarcastically) Oh, I'm just a passing civilian from Arcadia, who happens to be wearing MJOLNIR armour in the middle of a Covenant ship and knows about the top-secret Operation: EUREKA, that's all...
Matt: They'll get what's coming to them. They've obviously been lifted straight up to that rank, from training, by Chetner; They won't last a second in real deployment
Bravo enters the room with Hood.
DAB: You wanted to see us, sir?
Hood: Ah, yes, Bravo. As you know, the Sword was damaged during the attack. She still flies, but cannot go to slipspace. Commander Keyes has decided to take the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn through the portal, along with the Separatists. The Master Chief is going with them. Now, I offer you the choice: do you want to? If you do, you'll be assigned to the Dawn right away. Your choice.
(we are burning brute mongrel hides, everyone is worried sick wondering where vallsamee is, dab was talking with other humans, the arbiter and the master chief are inviting us to a party, and kai fell asleep in a cubord after chewing on a plate.)
Crestus stared at Zentarious who was trapped in his brig cell. He had been stripped of all his armor and weaponry.
"What are you looking at?" Zentarious asked calmly and quietly. "Are you going to kill me or what?"
"What is the Prophet of Truth digging for?"
"I would die a thousand deaths before I betrayed my Prophet."
"That can be arranged. Or rather, I can make it feel like you've died a thousand times."
Zentarious just stared at his feet. The blood from his nose and various cuts on his face had long since clotted and dried. "Why did you do it Seraph? Why did you betray your own kind? Why did you betray the Gods?"
"Halo is a weapon of ultimate destruction. The Prophets would sacrifice us all for nothing. The Forerunners were never anything other than incredible architechs."
Zentarious covered his ears at these words. "You shall not sway me Heretic. Either you kill me or I kill you. Those are the only two outcomes. Period."
(So Ncholas and some marines are aboard a ship in the separitist fleet.)
Nicholas wakes up. He looks outside and is astonished to not be at earth. He asks around and finds out an important piece of information. Nobody has any idea where they are except that the Ark is around here somewhere.
(I would like to be a part of the longsword crew that gets their wing shot off and spots the map room. We can even assist the elites that found the cartographer.)
(Thel, here's what happened: we captured Zentarious, and then the Fury travelled to the Portal, to link up with the Separatist fleet. Meanwhile, Bravo had cleared an area nearby Voi of AA Wraiths, to facilitate the attack on Truth's Dreadnought. The Sword of Giants was damaged in the attack, the Dreadnought escaped and the Indulgence of Conviction came out of slipspace, crashing and infecting the area with Flood. Bravo were extracted by the Sangheili, and opted to go with the Dawn to Installation 00. I assume the Fury is among the Separatist fleet. We are now above Installation 00, and Bravo is splitting into teams, to eliminate AA defenses, so the Dawn can land.)
Zentarious: Ok, then I shall! He is going to quash your miserable rebellion and- Ahhhh!
Crestus looked at his clock. "Zentarious, we are above an ancient Forerunner artifact. There is battle raging all around us. We need to know what Truth plans to do or we are all doomed."
Zentarious was beaten and exhausted, but he still managed to look Crestus in the eye. "The noble Prophet seeks the control room and from there he shall light the Devine Halos and propel the worthy and faithful to godhood! The infidels shall be left behind to be comsumed by the parasite. That is all you will have from me."
Crestus used the harness to shock Zentarious into unconsciousness and left the brig.
Kai: "I can't make up my mind, he's no threat to us while he is in their, though I only don't want to kill him because he said he wanted to die and he isn't the boss of us, if they are anything like the sangheili if you try to ransomed him they will just kill his family in punishment for being captured, I highly doubt he knows anything at all. Oh well."
"Jirlhane are different from sangheili. A sangheili's family isn't killed if he is captured, but he is disgraced and usually commits suicide himself. Zentarious would likely lose all good standing he may have had among the tribes as being captured shows that he was weak and thus cannot lead. In jirlhanae society only the strong may lead.
Sangheili political assassinations ensure a similar policy."
Taybab: "Besides Kai, Zentarious would have killed us brutally already if our positions were reversed. The only reason he did not do it before was because he had defensive operations around the excavation site to take care of."
(Stars, Zentarious is in the brig, alone, strapped into an interrogation harness.)
Vlassamee examined his displays as he hovered over the flower shaped construct. The Fury was running at better than normal capacity thanks to the second huragok they had acquired. Vlassamee had instructed the ships computer to provide tactical data to the surrounding Separatist vessels. The Zealous Fury herself was cloaked moving above the Ark's atmosphere.
"Computer, use the shard to gain clearance for interface and download all data pertaining to Ark. Bring anything of relavence to my attention." Vlassamee stroked his lower two mandibles as a human would stroke his chin. His helmet's faceplate was retracted giving him some space to stretch his mouth.
"The center of the Ark, find out what that is."
"Working. Assuming translation is correct, the center of the installation is known as the foundry. It seems to be a massive manufacturing plant."
Vlassamee lept to his feet. He pulled the downward view onto the main screen. He could only see the curve of the edge. The Ark was a truly huge construct.
"Launch a tactical drone."
The tactical drone shot out of a cannon on top of the Fury and flew away from the ship and the ark. Then is stopped and activated its sensor array. Vlassamee switched to the drone's view. The Foundry was a perfect circle and it matched the dimensions of both Alpha and Delta Halo.
"By the gods," Vlassamee whispered. Crestus entered the bridge at that moment and looked at Vlassamee, saw the look of consternation on Vlassamee's face, and then realization dawned on him.
One did not become a Black Seraph without keen wits.
"Is that what I think it is?"
"It looks like a Ring is being constructed right now. If this thing has been working all the time the Forerunners have been gone then there could be hundreds of Halos in this galaxy alone!"
Johnson: Enjoy it while you can, Marines. Soon as we land, we're right back to it. Priority one: secure a landing zone for the Commander's frigate. Keep your eyes and ears open. We need all the intel we can get... on wherever the hell we are.
The Pelicans touch down on a cliff side.
Johnson: Stand to, Marines!
Weaver and Kaflinsky: Oo-rah!
Johnson: Go, go, go!
Bravo-One and the Chief jump out of the Pelicans. As they move on, Carpenter spots what looks like the Milky Way galaxy in the sky.
Carpenter: Hey, check it out. In the sky. Is that-
(Are Beck and Shrake NPCs, and if not, whose characters are they?)
The Pelican containing Bravo-Four lands, some distance away from the other teams. Their main job is to eliminate a Type-45 Long-Range Anti-Aircraft Bombardment Emplacement, which could puncture the Dawn's hull with a single on-target shot. They seem to have been placed in a roughly circular layout around a curious structure near the centre of the Ark.
DAB: (jumping out of Pelican) Ok, we can't hit that thing ourselves - it's too damn big - so we have to mark it for 'Vadum to take out. Got the Target Locator, Michaels?
Vlassamee was still gawking at the image of the incomplete Halo being worked on at the center when the computer's monotone voice blared out, "Control room located. It has been taken by Covenant forces. Recommend us of heavy artillary in the assault."
"Send the tactically relavent data and your recommendations to the fleet and the humans," Vlassamee said. "Some T-26s and those human tanks ought to do the trick."
Vlassamee itched to get groundside, but he had agreed with Shipmaster 'Vadum when he had said the Fury would be more valuable as a tactical surveillance platform for the time being. The Fury, while a formidable combat craft, was superbly suited to invisible reconnaissance.
Vlassamee also worried about the Flood. They could still find there way here. They might even be on the Ark already. Had they not overtaken the Holy Rings? Why should the Rings' birthplace be any different?

(If you're referring to the place building at the end of The Ark (level), that isn't the Control Room, it's the Cartographer.)
Thel Vadam4321 wrote: (Okay, so I am taking liberties with what the Seraphs are able to learn about the Ark so quickly compared to the canonical Human/Elite forces, but that is part of the fun of an RP right?)
(But if you find out about the Citadel and the Halos so quickly, what's the point of going to the Cartographer?)
The Chief fires his sniper rifle, and the ODSTs open fire. In just a few seconds, all the enemies in the area are wiped out.
Weaver: We got more enemy contacts ahead, move out!
The team goes through a cave. On the other side, a Phantom is assembling a Mantis AA cannon.
Hartley: They're setting up an AA battery. That thing'll tear the Dawn apart... We'll wait for you to take the shot.
(Already said that I was stretching things a little. I actually planned to have some of my characters go into the Foundry and in their attempts to shut it down they speed up the process. Would you rather I retcon those statements?)
The Major sat in sick bay with an antidote tube in his arm. The poison gas he had been exposed to on Zentarious's ship had taken its toll on him. At least the green boils were gone, but he was still rather week and breather was difficult.
(Personally, yes. Because that defeats the point of going to the Cartographer. Not to mention that the UNSC are only supposed to know about the Halo replacement at the end of The Covenant. Until then, only Guilty Spark should know of it.)
The Chief opens fire on the Brutes constructing the AA gun. A Phantom drops a pair of Hunters.
Hartley: Cover the Chief! He'll take down those Hunters!
(RETCON: The Zealous Fury's crew did not discover the Foundry or Installation Zero-Four B. Sorry about that. I was trying to add some interesting side story. Even as I wrote it I realized the fault in it.)
"The Master Chief and Arbiter are making impressive progress," Vlassamee mused.
"You want to be on the ground don't you?" Taybab asked quietly.
"Yes. But my place is up here at the moment. Shipmaster 'Vadum is engaged with jirlhanae forces and our contribution as a tactical platform is too valuable to forsake.
Still, all those humans we have faught with, the Spartan, the ODSTs they are all joining in the battle. My mind knows I am helping them from where I am, but my body feels useless and traitorous for not fighting by their sides."
(Where the hell are the other teams? If we want to skip all this campaign stuff, then we got to make this quick.)
The ODSTs and the Chief encounter a pair of Marines near a crashed Pelican and a few Mongooses. Two Prowlers arrive at their position. The Brutes are quickly taken out by the Spartan. The team mounts up on the Prowlers and Mongooses.
(I am not sure what I can do at this point that won't just interfere with the story. You all are so integrated and the Seraphs by there nature never revealed themselves.)
Vlassamee examined a tactical holo map of the area surrounding the cartographer. "There," he pointed. "There the human vessel should be safe in canyon. It is accessible from the cliff side. The only issue to deal with is the anti-air. The humans have their pelicans on the ground, but the Dawn is carrying their tanks. The Shadow and the rest of the fleet are too busy to be able to deploy anything. Those tanks are just what they need to make a push for the cartographer." Vlassamee broadcast a tactical update for the Dawn.
Bravo-Four instinctively ducks down, as the Minor surveys the land.
DAB: (whispering) Wait here, I'll sneak up on him.
DAB crouches, and sneaks toward the Brute, staying behind a ridge of rock. The Brute stops looking, seeming satisfied that the area is empty, and turns to walk back inside. This was a mistake, as DAB uses the opportunity to jump out behind him, and stab him in the neck with a combat knife.
DAB makes the 'move up' gesture, and the team form up, and move through the door, into something akin to a Forerunner atrium.
(Well I am certainly glad that 343i did not ruin the yanme'e as well. Not that they were particularlly special enemies or anything. More annoying than anything. I really don't think I have a purpose anymore. I've run myself and my characters into inactivity.)
DAB, eerily silent for someone wearing two-tonne armour, sneaks up on a Grunt sleeping by a corner. He stabs it with a combat knife, and as he does so turns the corner, into a corridor running parallel to the room. In it is a Jiralhanae Chieftain, walking on patrol. It wields a T-2 'Gravity Hammer' EW/H. It is facing the other way, and hasn't seen DAB. He draws his sidearm, keeping it aimed at the Brute's head, and slowly creeps toward it. He takes out his combat knife with the other hand.
Shrake turns the corner at the end of the corridor in which DAB is sneaking up on the Chieftan. It sees him, and becomes enraged. DAB stabs it, killing it, but not before it roars, alerting any nearby troops of their position.
DAB (COM): We're going to have to sprint it. Ignore any non-essential kills, and only fire at enemies in front of you. Go!
DAB sprints through to the next room, surprised to find it empty. He keeps running, but is suddenly knocked off balance as a massive metal shield swings into his chest, out of nowhere. It sends him flying into a wall, which cracks his visor and brings about a bout of flickering HUD again. A pair of Hunters begin to advance on him.
(Nicholas should be with Bravo-Two in another part of the desert, destroying another AA gun. We haven't encountered the Scarab. Given that Locke and Coolbuddy aren't here, I think you can control the full team.)
Michaels, Beck and Shrake open fire on the Hunters.
He throws a frag grenade, which bounces off the armour of one of the Hunters and lands in front of him.
With quick reflexes, Shrake is able to grab the grenade and throw it at the Hunters. The grenade explodes mid-air, destroying the armour on the back of one of the Hunters.
The Hunter with the exposed back charges at DAB in an attempt to protect its bond brother, allowing Michaels to unload his battle rifle on its back. It turns to Michaels and charges its fuel rod cannon, but at the same time exposing its back to DAB.
(Oh, and for those still wondering why DAB's HUD is flickering, do remember that his helmet has had a Hunter's shield dropped on it, been dropped out of a skyscraper, and now just recently had a very hard collision into a Forerunner wall.)
Bravo-Four moves to the exit of the room. As the door slides open, it reveals expansive desert going on for miles. More worrying though, are the four Wraiths patrolling the expanses in front of them. Worse, there is no cover between the Preying Mantis and the Forerunner complex they were in.
Shrake: Shit! We can't fight through that!
DAB: We don't need to. Michaels, have you still got the Locator? Target that thing from here.
Michaels: Ok, but as soon as I do, the laser will give us away. We'll need to run.
DAB: I'd be more worried about getting killed by Intent's orbital strike, than those Wraiths.
Pickering: (COM) No can do. That AA gun will shoot us out of the sky before we get within a klick of you, and we're already busy.
Rtas (COM) I shall send a Phantom.
DAB (COM) Won't it get shot down?
Rtas (COM) Trust me, Demon...
Bravo-Four makes it out, to the other side of the Forerunner structure. They take some comfort in the fact that there is now a large, 200-meter thick wall between the Wraiths and them, but no doubt there are already troops making their way through the ruins.
DAB (COM) Alright, assume defensive positions... They're coming, and we need to be - whoa!
A Phantom Gunboat exits slipspace right below the tip of the cliff, and slows down to pick up the team.
As the Gunboat flies along parallel to the Sentinel Wall, the Scarab appears, and fires its main gun at the Phantom. The beam only grazes the bottom Phantom, but it is enough to send the reactors into meltdown. The engines explode, and the Phantom goes spinning, over the top of the Sentinel Wall. Michaels, Shrake, Beck and DAB are sent spiraling around the cabin, grasping for something - anything - to hold on to. Michaels' helmet collides with DAB's shoulder, as the two are flung into a wall.
Then, as suddenly as it had started, the Phantom stopped moving... But the soldiers didn't. They were flung violently into the roof of the Phantom, which had crashed upside down in the sand. Debris of metal and rock were strewn across the ceiling, which now served as its makeshift floor. Some sharp pieces of metal jutted out of the battered Phantom's ceiling, and the ODSTs were lucky they hadn't landed on any. Peering into the cockpit, all DAB could see was purple Sangheili blood.
DAB Pilots are dead.
DAB turns, and sees Beck and Shrake crowding around something. Upon closer inspection, it is Michaels, and he has his helmet off. His face is covered in blood. Everyone stands there wordlessly for a minute.
DAB either hadn't heard, or didn't care, so Shrake went back to watching the approach. he stared glumly as the Scarab, seemingly satisfied at having shot down the Phantom, was slinking away back to its hiding place. Suddenly, movement got his attention. A pack was coming to investigate the crash site. Shrake ducked back inside, and looked at DAB.
Shrake DAB, sorry to disturb you, but we've got Covies inbound.
DAB looks up, for a moment, then calmly lays Michaels' head down, and walks outside, despite Shrake's attempts to stop him.
Minor Demon! Kill him!
He kept walking calmly, shrugging off plasma fire, until the Brute was within 3 meters of him.
Minor Cease fire! The Demon is challenging me, and so I shall kill him and become Chieftan. Come on then, Demon!
DAB I'll show you Demon...
DAB jumps, and kicks the Brute in the throat, but keeps his foot there, even as he lands. The Brute squirms, and struggles, as a ton of weight crushes his throat. DAB simply remains there until the Jiralhanae is dead. When he is satisfied, he pulls his sidearm on the shocked onlooking Grunts, and they all break out of their trance, fleeing. DAB turns, and begins to walk back. Shrake looks at Beck.
Shrake (quietly) Shiiitttt... That was messed up on a Kaflinski level.
DAB Let's go.
DAB picks up Michaels, and his own helmet, then begins to walk.
Shrake Where are we going?
DAB Just... away.
Bravo-Four walks toward the Sentinel wall, trying to put as much distance between them and the structure the Covenant were crawling around as possible. They move in the general direction of the Dawn. He wasn't sure, but as he walked, DAB thought he felt Michaels' heart beat.
Carpenter, who is sitting on the treads of one of the Scorpions, is hit by a plasma bolt of one of the Ghost and falls to the sand. As the convoy continues forward, Brace jumps out of his tank and runs to Carpenter's position.
Brace (COM): Trent, Carpenter is wounded! Need immediate evac!
(Do you guys remember what I wrote in the Thirteenth Battle?)
Commando Trooper wrote: (On a side note, I already have most of the Installation 00 plot planned. Basically, Bravo's going to split into teams, like in the Daego Insertions. Hartley's team will be the ODST team that follows the Chief during the levels The Ark and The Covenant. Meanwhile, the other teams will be sent to take out several AA guns around the Dawn's LZ, and then sent to an island, similar to the Silent Cartographer island, to infiltrate the tunnel systems and find a way to go under the shield surrounding the Citadel. After that, however, I don't have anything planned.)
Both the Dawn and the Zealous Fury are docked in the Intent's hangar. The carrier is hovering over an ocean.
Meanwhile, in the Dawn's hangar...
Bravo, the Chief, and Johnson's squad are getting ready to board their Pelicans. Keyes enters the hangar.
Miranda: Spark believes the Covenant are using the tunnels to ferry troops and supplies to the Citadel. The entrance to the tunnels is located in the middle of a small island, near the barrier. I want a team in those tunnels, in case the Chief and the others fail to deactivate that shield. Not that I expect that to happen, of course, but we can't take any chances right now.
Hartley: Understood, Commander. (turns to Bravo) Bravo-Two, Three and Four, I want you to go to the tunnels together. DAB, you're the leader. Go with Trent.
